Conservatories and orangeries are popular additions to Hampstead NW3 period properties — but their mixed materials (timber, uPVC, aluminium, glass) present specific painting challenges. Our NW3 decorators are experienced in all the surfaces these structures present.
Painting Timber Conservatory Frames
Hardwood conservatory frames (hardwood is standard for premium conservatories and orangeries in NW3) benefit from a microporous stain or paint system that accommodates seasonal timber movement. We use Teknos or Sikkens systems for all timber conservatory frames, applying by brush to ensure good coverage into moulding profiles and joints.
Painting uPVC
uPVC conservatories can be painted — but the process requires a specialist adhesion primer (Ronseal uPVC primer, Zinsser BIN) before any topcoat is applied. Without this primer, paint simply peels away from the uPVC surface in weeks. Properly primed, a water-based satinwood applied to uPVC can last 7–10 years.
Powder-Coated Aluminium
Powder-coated aluminium conservatory frames are the most challenging to repaint — the surface is very hard and has poor inherent adhesion. We use an industrial adhesion promoter followed by a two-pack epoxy topcoat to guarantee adhesion and durability on NW3 aluminium conservatory structures.
