James W.
Victorian Terrace, Belsize Park
"They restored all 14 sash windows in our conservation area property. The joinery repairs, draught-proofing, and microporous paint finish were all outstanding. Camden planning were very happy with the result."
Olivia B.

"The Venetian plaster feature wall in our hallway is genuinely breathtaking. Friends and neighbours keep asking who did it. The craftsmanship is on another level entirely."
Priya K.

Common questions about our services and process
We primarily use premium brands such as Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Mylands, Dulux Heritage, Benjamin Moore, Keim, and Earthborn. We also work with Papers & Paints, Graphenstone, and other specialist heritage or eco-friendly brands depending on the substrate and project requirements.
Yes, we offer free, no-obligation estimates. We will visit your property to assess the scope of work and provide a detailed written quote within 24-48 hours.
The duration depends on the size and complexity of the project. During our initial consultation, we will provide a timeline and keep you updated on our progress throughout the job. Single rooms typically take 2-3 days; full houses 1-3 weeks.
We ask that you remove small, fragile items. Our team is happy to help move larger furniture pieces and will ensure everything is completely covered and protected before we begin.
Absolutely. We carry £10 million in Public Liability Insurance for your peace of mind.
For a typical 3-bedroom Victorian or Edwardian house in NW3 or North London, a full interior redecoration (walls, ceilings, woodwork) ranges from £5,500 to £12,000 depending on condition, ceiling height, number of coats required, and paint brand. We provide detailed written quotes with no hidden costs. Contact us for a free, no-obligation estimate.
Exterior painting costs in NW3 typically range from £3,500 to £10,000 for a standard semi-detached or terraced house, or £8,000 to £22,000 for a large detached property. Factors include scaffold requirements, number of storeys, substrate condition, and paint specification (standard masonry paint vs. Keim silicate for period properties). We carry scaffolding costs in our quotes.
In NW3 and the wider North London area, experienced painters and decorators typically charge £250–£400 per day. We quote by project rather than day rate, which gives you certainty on final cost. Our project quotes include all materials, preparation, protection, and cleanup.
Wallpaper hanging in NW3 typically costs £400–£800 per room for standard wallpaper, plus the cost of the wallpaper itself. Luxury or complex papers (grasscloth, hand-blocked, Cole & Son, de Gournay) may cost more due to the care and expertise required. All we ask is that you confirm the number of rolls before we quote so we can assess the pattern-matching requirements.
Limewash is a traditional, breathable paint made from calcium hydroxide. It is the historically correct coating for pre-1919 properties with solid lime-plastered walls. Unlike modern acrylic paints, limewash allows moisture vapour to pass through the wall, preventing damp problems and blown plaster. We specialise in limewash application for Hampstead's Victorian, Edwardian, and Georgian properties.
Keim is a German mineral silicate paint developed in 1878. It works through silicification — the potassium silicate binder reacts chemically with the masonry substrate to form a permanent, mineral bond. The result is a vapour-permeable, UV-resistant finish that does not peel, chip, or fade, and can last 20–30 years without repainting. We are approved Keim applicators and use Keim Granital for exterior facades across NW3.
Yes, we have specialist decorative finishes craftsmen experienced in Venetian plaster (marmorino), polished plaster, and related techniques including microcement and tadelakt. These finishes transform entrance halls, feature walls, and bathroom interiors. We are based in NW3 and serve all of Hampstead, Belsize Park, and North London for specialist decorative finishes.
Yes — in most cases, full restoration is entirely achievable and preferable, particularly in conservation areas where uPVC replacement is either prohibited or inappropriate. We replace broken sash cords, splice in new timber where rot has occurred, install draught-proofing brush seals, and refinish with microporous paint. This typically costs 20–40% of the cost of replacement windows and looks far better.
In almost all cases, yes — particularly for solid timber, in-frame, or high-quality MDF kitchens. Professional kitchen respraying or artisan hand painting delivers a completely fresh appearance for £1,000–£4,000, compared to £15,000–£100,000 for a luxury kitchen replacement. The key is proper preparation: we degrease, sand, prime, and apply minimum two topcoats of furniture-grade lacquer. Our painted kitchens regularly last 8–15 years before needing a refresh.
HVLP spray painting produces a perfectly flat, factory-quality finish with zero brush marks — ideal for modern shaker or slab-door kitchens. Artisan hand painting produces a slightly more textured, characterful finish using specialist furniture brushes — ideal for traditional in-frame kitchens by Plain English, Tom Howley, or bespoke cabinet makers. We offer both methods and will recommend the most appropriate during our assessment.
Absolutely. We colour-match all Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Mylands, and Benjamin Moore shades in our furniture lacquers. Popular kitchen colours in NW3 currently include Farrow & Ball Railings (charcoal), Farrow & Ball Hardwick White (soft classic white), and Farrow & Ball Mole' Breath (sophisticated warm grey). We provide colour advice as part of our free quotation visit.
Yes. We specialise in zero-VOC and low-impact decorating using Earthborn Claypaint (EU Ecolabel certified, no acrylics or vinyl), Graphenstone (natural lime plus graphene, carbon capture), and Keim mineral silicate (entirely mineral, no synthetic binders). These are our preferred choices for nurseries, children's bedrooms, and for clients with respiratory sensitivities or a commitment to reducing indoor air pollution.
Dust-free sanding uses Mirka CEROS electric orbital sanders directly connected to HEPA vacuum extractors, capturing 99.97% of particulate matter at source before it enters the room. This eliminates the clouds of dust associated with traditional preparation work, protecting your HVAC systems, fine furnishings, artwork, and soft goods. It also means you can remain at home comfortably during preparation stages. We use dust-free sanding as standard on all our projects.
In Belsize Park NW3, a typical 1-bedroom flat costs £1,800–£3,000 for a full interior redecoration, a 2-bedroom mansion block flat £2,800–£5,000, and a 3-bedroom Victorian terrace £4,500–£8,000. Prices include preparation, primer, and two coats of premium paint. We provide free, no-obligation quotes for all Belsize Park properties.
Properties near Hampstead Heath tend to be larger period homes. Interior painting for a 4-bedroom Victorian villa typically costs £7,000–£14,000. Exterior restoration (including scaffolding and specialist heritage coatings) ranges from £8,000–£25,000 depending on the facade condition and paint specification. We offer free surveys for all Heath-border properties.
Yes, West Hampstead NW6 is just a 10-minute walk from our Finchley Road offices. We have completed over 200 projects across West Hampstead, Kilburn, Queens Park, and South Hampstead. Our proximity means fast response times and competitive pricing for NW6 residents.
Belsize Park mansion blocks traditionally feature cream, stone, or Portland stone shades. Popular choices include Dulux Weathershield Almond White, Farrow & Ball Pointing, and Little Greene Portland Stone. We offer a free colour consultation as part of our quotation visit and can advise on what works best within conservation area guidelines.
If your property is within the Hampstead Conservation Area or is a listed building, you should consult Camden Council before significantly changing the exterior colour. Like-for-like redecoration in the same colour does not usually require permission, but changing from, say, white to black would likely need approval. We can advise on this during our free site survey.
Our office at Unit 3, Palace Court, 250 Finchley Road is right between Belsize Park and West Hampstead. We are approximately 5 minutes from Belsize Park and 10 minutes from West Hampstead centre. This makes us the most conveniently located quality painting company for both areas.
Most streets bordering Hampstead Heath fall within the Hampstead Conservation Area, including East Heath Road, Well Walk, Flask Walk, South Hill Park, Spaniards Road, North End Way, and Parliament Hill. Properties on these streets may have restrictions on external decoration. Our team is experienced with conservation area requirements and can advise during your free survey.
Parking in West Hampstead is controlled, but our team manages parking independently — we factor parking permits into our project costs so there is never an additional charge to you. Many of our NW6 projects are within walking distance of our Finchley Road base.
Most rooms require two coats of emulsion on walls and ceilings, applied over a mist coat (diluted first coat) if painting onto new plaster. Woodwork typically needs a primer/undercoat plus two topcoats of eggshell or satinwood. We never cut corners on coats — proper coverage is essential for a lasting finish.
Matt paint has virtually no sheen and hides imperfections well, making it ideal for ceilings and living areas. Eggshell has a subtle 10-15% sheen, is more durable and wipeable, and is the standard choice for woodwork, kitchens, and bathrooms. We typically use matt emulsion on walls/ceilings and eggshell on all woodwork.
Standard exterior masonry paint typically lasts 5-8 years in London conditions before needing a refresh. Premium coatings like Keim mineral silicate can last 20-30 years without repainting. Timber paint (windows, doors) typically lasts 3-5 years depending on exposure. South-facing walls and areas exposed to driving rain will need attention sooner.
We strongly advise against simply painting over damp without addressing the underlying cause. Painting over active damp traps moisture behind the paint film, leading to blistering, peeling, and potential mould growth. We will identify the source of dampness during our survey and recommend appropriate treatment before decoration.
Please remove small, fragile, and valuable items from the rooms being decorated. We handle everything else — moving larger furniture to the centre of the room, covering floors and furnishings with dust sheets, and protecting fixtures. At the end of each day, we leave the space tidy. Our white glove cleanup at project completion returns your home to a pristine state.
Yes, we can colour match virtually any existing paint shade. We use spectrophotometer colour matching technology to analyse your existing paintwork and reproduce it exactly in the brand and finish of your choice. This is particularly useful when touching up or extending existing decoration.
Our standard working hours are 8:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. We are flexible for special requirements — for example, we can work Saturday mornings by arrangement, and for commercial projects, we offer evening and weekend working. We always agree hours with you before starting.
Yes, interior painting can be carried out year-round. For exterior work, we generally work between April and October when temperatures are consistently above 5°C and rain is less likely. We monitor weather forecasts carefully and will not apply exterior coatings in unsuitable conditions, as this would compromise the finish.
Walls are typically touch-dry within 2-4 hours and can have furniture placed near them after 24 hours. We recommend waiting 2-3 weeks before hanging pictures or pressing anything against painted surfaces, as full curing takes time. Woodwork painted in eggshell or satinwood should not be loaded (shelves, etc.) for at least 48 hours.
We recommend a specialist anti-mould ceiling paint such as Dulux Trade Sterishield or Zinsser Perma-White for bathroom ceilings. These paints contain antimicrobial additives that resist mould and mildew growth in humid conditions. For premium bathrooms, we also recommend Farrow & Ball Modern Emulsion, which has excellent moisture resistance.
For day-to-day maintenance, wipe marks gently with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners on matt-finished walls. Touch up small scuffs with matching paint (we leave touch-up pots). In high-traffic areas (hallways, children's rooms), consider eggshell or mid-sheen finishes that are more durable and easier to clean.
Yes, we regularly redecorate after water leaks, fire damage, and other insurance claims. We work directly with loss adjusters and can provide detailed photographic records of the damage and our remediation work. We ensure all surfaces are properly dried and treated before decoration to prevent future problems.
A typical 3-bedroom terrace interior in Belsize Park NW3 costs £5,000–£10,000 for full redecoration including walls, ceilings, and woodwork. Exterior painting ranges from £4,000–£8,000. Belsize Park period properties often require more thorough preparation — filling, sanding, and priming — due to the age of the plasterwork, which can add to the overall cost. Premium paint brands such as Farrow & Ball or Little Greene add 10–20%. We provide free, detailed written quotes.
Yes, West Hampstead NW6 is one of our core service areas. We regularly work along the West End Lane corridor and throughout the Victorian terraces, conversion flats, and mansion blocks that characterise the area. Our team is familiar with the specific challenges of NW6 properties, including high ceilings and complex communal areas. See our dedicated area page at /areas/nw6 for more information.
Exterior painting for a typical Victorian terrace in NW3 ranges from £4,000–£8,000, depending on render condition, scaffold requirements, number of storeys, and paint specification. Conservation area properties may require specialist breathable products such as Keim mineral silicate paint or limewash rather than standard masonry coatings, which affects both material cost and application time. We provide free surveys and detailed quotes.
Yes, we specialise in conservation area work across Hampstead and the wider NW3. We use vapour-permeable, breathable products including Keim mineral silicate paint, limewash (Edward Bulmer, Bauwerk, Earthborn), and approved heritage colour palettes. Camden Council planning requirements apply to listed buildings and certain exterior changes; we advise on this during our free site survey and can liaise with the council on your behalf where needed.
Yes, we cover all of Highgate N6 including Highgate Village, Archway, and the surrounding streets. Victorian and Edwardian properties are a particular speciality — we are experienced with the original lime plaster, sash windows, and period joinery found throughout the area. We carry out both interior and exterior decorating projects for residential and commercial clients across N6.
We cover a wide area of North and North-West London including: Hampstead NW3, West Hampstead NW6, Highgate N6, Belsize Park NW3, Swiss Cottage NW3, Primrose Hill NW3, St John's Wood NW8, Maida Vale W9, Kentish Town NW5, Camden NW1, Islington N1, Golders Green NW11, and surrounding areas. Contact us to confirm coverage for your postcode.
A typical 2-bedroom flat in West Hampstead NW6 costs £2,500–£5,000 for a full interior redecoration, including all walls, ceilings, and woodwork. This covers thorough preparation, a mist or primer coat, and two full topcoats. Premium brands such as Farrow & Ball or Little Greene add approximately 15–30% to material costs. We provide free written quotes with no hidden charges.
Yes, we regularly work with managing agents and building managers on communal decorating projects across NW3, NW6, and NW8. We use quick-drying, low-odour paints to minimise disruption to residents, and can schedule work out-of-hours or at weekends where required. We provide detailed condition reports and photographic documentation before and after each project.
Most rooms need two coats of emulsion on properly prepared surfaces. Dark colours, or walls freshly plastered, may need a third coat to achieve full opacity. We always begin with a mist coat (highly diluted emulsion) on bare or newly plastered walls to seal the surface before full coats are applied. Skipping this step causes peeling and uneven sheen. We never cut corners on coats.
We spray kitchen cabinets using two-pack lacquer and professional HVLP spray equipment for a factory-quality, brush-mark-free finish. Hand-painting is used for intricate mouldings or complex detailing where a spray gun cannot reach. Spraying delivers the most durable and even result for flat or shaker-style doors. We degrease, sand, and prime all surfaces before applying a minimum of two topcoats.
A painter applies paint. A decorator covers the full scope of a project: colour consultation, wallpaper hanging, specialist plasterwork, gilding, and decorative finishes such as Venetian plaster or limewash. Our team are fully qualified decorators as well as painters — we manage every aspect of a redecoration project from stripping old finishes through to the final finishing touches.
Venetian plaster (marmorino) is a polished lime-based finish applied in multiple thin coats and burnished to create a smooth, lustrous, marble-like effect. It is used on feature walls, entrance halls, and bathrooms to add depth and texture. A typical feature wall costs £600–£1,500 depending on the size and complexity of the finish. We have specialist craftsmen experienced in marmorino, microcement, and tadelakt.
Limewash is a traditional breathable paint made from slaked lime. It allows moisture vapour to pass through the wall, making it essential for old stone, brick, and lime render that must not be sealed with modern acrylics. It is the correct choice for listed buildings, conservation area properties, and any pre-1919 construction with solid walls. Leading brands include Edward Bulmer, Bauwerk, and Earthborn.
Yes. We document every colour used on your project — the exact code, finish, sheen level, and batch reference — and keep this on file. Many of our clients return to us for touch-ups years after their original project and we can reproduce the exact shade with no guesswork. We also leave labelled touch-up pots at the end of every job.
Yes. We use Festool Planex and rotary sanders with integrated dust extraction as standard on all our projects. This captures dust at source before it enters the room, protecting your HVAC systems, fine furnishings, and artwork. Dust-free preparation is especially important in occupied homes, for allergy sufferers, and when working around antique furniture or soft goods that are difficult to move.
We generally do not recommend painting over existing wallpaper. The moisture in paint can cause paper to lift, bubble, and show seams through the finished surface. It also traps any existing damp behind an impermeable layer. Our preferred approach is to strip the old wallpaper, repair any damaged plaster, allow it to dry fully, and then paint onto a clean, stable surface for a lasting result.
For damp-prone areas we use Zinsser BIN shellac-based primer as an isolating barrier coat, followed by moisture-resistant topcoats. However, paint alone cannot cure active rising or penetrating damp — it simply masks it. Where genuine damp is present we recommend treating the underlying cause first. We work alongside specialist damp surveyors and can refer trusted contractors before decoration begins.
New plaster typically needs 4–6 weeks to dry fully, depending on thickness, ventilation, and time of year. Painting onto wet plaster traps moisture, causing blistering and flaking. Once dry, we apply a mist coat — highly diluted emulsion at roughly 70% paint to 30% water — to seal the surface before full coats. This step is critical and should never be skipped on fresh plaster.
Yes, a free colour consultation is included with all full-project quotes. Our lead decorators bring large sample boards and paint swatches to your property and advise based on the natural and artificial light in each room, room proportions, and your existing furnishings and flooring. We work with all major paint brands including Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Mylands, and Benjamin Moore.
Keim is a German mineral silicate paint that chemically bonds to masonry substrates through a process called silicification, rather than forming a surface film. The result is vapour-permeable, UV-resistant, and extremely durable — Keim-painted facades regularly last 50 years or more without peeling or fading. It is specified by English Heritage and the National Trust for listed buildings and conservation area properties, and is our preferred exterior coating for period facades in NW3.
