Painting a child's room or nursery in Hampstead NW3 requires particular care around paint safety. Young children spend many hours in their bedrooms and are more vulnerable to airborne chemicals than adults — making paint selection critical.
Zero-VOC and Natural Paints for Children
For nurseries and children's rooms, we exclusively recommend Earthborn Claypaint (EU Ecolabel, zero acrylics, zero VOCs), Graphenstone Natural Interior (zero VOC, lime-based), or Farrow & Ball Modern Emulsion (water-based, very low VOC). We complete all painting and leave windows open to air for 24–48 hours before the room is occupied.
Colours for Children's Rooms
Research suggests that stimulating primary colours are appropriate for play rooms and daytime spaces, while more muted, softer tones — pale greens, soft blues, warm creams — are better for bedroom environments where sleep is the priority. Earthborn Claypaint's range of warm pastels is perfect for Hampstead nurseries.
Growing with the Child
We advise NW3 parents to choose slightly more neutral, adaptable colours for nurseries — the vivid murals of a baby's first year can be difficult to cover when the child is 7 and has developed their own strong opinions. Soft greens, warm creams, and gentle blues grow with the child far better than primary red or bright yellow.
