Highbury Fields is one of north London's finest public open spaces, and the properties surrounding it — from the Georgian terraces on Highbury Place to the Victorian villas along Highbury Crescent and the Edwardian houses on Highbury Grange — form one of N5's most desirable residential areas.
Georgian Properties on Highbury Place
The Georgian terrace on the west side of Highbury Fields is among N5's earliest surviving domestic architecture. These elegant townhouses require a decorating approach that respects their 18th-century origins — lime-compatible paints on original plaster, period colour palettes, and careful treatment of surviving features including shutters, panelled doors, and simple cornicing.
Victorian Villas on Highbury Crescent
The substantial Victorian villas around Highbury Crescent and Highbury New Park feature elaborate interiors with deep cornicing, ornate ceiling roses, and generous proportions. These homes suit a rich, confident colour palette — deeper greens, warm blues, and complex neutrals that complement the architectural drama. Our N5 decorators use the Farrow & Ball and Little Greene ranges extensively in these magnificent rooms.
Edwardian Homes on Highbury Grange
The Edwardian houses east of the Fields on Highbury Grange and Balfour Road are lighter, brighter homes that suit softer palettes. Pale greens, warm off-whites, and gentle blues reflect the Edwardian sensibility beautifully. Period woodwork should be finished in soft eggshell rather than gloss for an authentic look.
