Painting & Rendering Exterior Walls in North London: Monocouche, Tyrolean & Smooth

Rendering degrades over time (hairline cracks develop as the structure moves seasonally), and when the rendered surface reaches the end of its serviceable life it requires either repair and repaint, or complete replacement. Assessing Your Existing Render

Before any remedial work begins, we assess the existing render: is it adhering firmly to the underlying masonry, or are there hollow sections (detectable by tapping)? Are the cracks hairline (surface movement only) or wider and structural? Is there evidence of moisture behind the render causing the stucco to blow? These assessments determine whether repair and repaint is viable, or whether partial or complete re-render is required.

Repairing and Repainting Existing Render

For sound render with cosmetic deterioration, we fill hairline cracks with a flexible exterior filler (Cementone or Polyfilla Exterior), apply a masonry stabilising primer to any powdering or friable sections, and apply two coats of a high-quality masonry paint system. We specify Sandtex Stabilising Solution with Sandtex 15-Year Dulux Weathershield, or for premium projects KEIM Granital (a mineral silicate paint with exceptional durability and a beautiful natural finish).

Monocouche Coloured Render

Modern monocouche render (such as Parex or Weber.pral M) is applied as a single scratch-coat in the desired colour — it does not require subsequent painting. This is an increasingly popular choice for full re-render projects as it eliminates the ongoing painting maintenance cycle. Available in a wide colour range, with a textured or smooth finish depending on the finish specification.
