Keim Silicate Paint in Hampstead NW3 — The 30-Year Exterior Coating

By David Miller16 January 20268 min read
Exterior decorating work on a North London property for Keim Silicate Paint in Hampstead NW3 — The 30-Year Exterior Coating

Keim paint has been protecting masonry in Germany since 1878 and is now widely recognised as the finest exterior mineral coating available. For Hampstead NW3 period properties — particularly those with solid masonry walls, lime render, or listed building status — Keim Granital is the correct and often only appropriate long-term exterior paint.

How Keim Works

Unlike conventional masonry paint, which forms a surface film, Keim works through silicification. The potassium silicate binder reacts chemically with the silicates in the masonry substrate, creating a permanent mineral bond. The result is not a paint "on" the wall — it is integrated into the wall itself.

Why This Matters for NW3 Properties

Solid masonry walls need to breathe. Modern film-forming masonry paints can trap moisture within the wall, leading to damp problems, blown render, and frost damage. Keim's vapour-permeable finish allows moisture to pass through freely, dramatically reducing damp issues in the solid masonry properties so common across Hampstead, Belsize Park, and South Hampstead.

Longevity

A properly applied Keim system on well-prepared masonry will last 20–30 years without repainting — typically three to four times the lifespan of conventional masonry paint. Though the initial cost is higher, the total cost over 30 years is significantly lower.

We are approved Keim applicators serving all NW3 and North London. Contact us for a Keim survey and quotation.
