Listed Building Painters in Hampstead NW3 — Conservation Area Approved

Restored heritage property showcasing exterior decorating work for Listed Building Painters in Hampstead NW3 — Conservation Area Approved

Listed building painting in Hampstead NW3 requires more than skill — it requires a thorough understanding of heritage legislation and the specific technical requirements of historic construction materials.

When Is Listed Building Consent Required?

Grade I and Grade II* listed buildings require Listed Building Consent for virtually any change, including repainting in a different colour (including white) or changing the paint type. Grade II listed buildings may require consent for external changes. Interior redecoration of listed buildings in NW3 is generally permitted without consent, but only if heritage-appropriate materials are used.

The Correct Materials for Listed Buildings

For listed buildings in NW3, we always use: limewash or Keim silicate on external masonry; linseed oil-based paints or specialist microporous coatings on external timber; casein distemper or breathable clay-based paints internally; lime-compatible fillers and putties for repairs. Modern acrylic products are incompatible with the moisture dynamics of historic construction.

Working with Conservation Officers

Our decorators have established working relationships with Camden Borough's heritage and planning officers. We can provide paint specifications, heritage statements, and before-and-after photographic records as required for Listed Building Consent applications.
