When prepared and applied correctly using furniture-grade primers and topcoats, a professional refinish is extremely durable and virtually indistinguishable from a factory finish. Doors and drawer fronts are degreased with sugar soap or TSP, sanded through P120 and then P240, primed to the substrate and built up in multiple topcoats with light sanding between each. A bathroom vanity is the hardest test of that sequence — it lives in a humid room and is wiped down with cleaning products — which is why the degreasing and the adhesion primer matter more there than the topcoat does.

Yes. These are non-porous surfaces, so nothing adheres to them by luck. They need thorough degreasing, a full abrade to kill the sheen, and a high-tack bonding primer such as Zinsser BIN that keys chemically to the face rather than mechanically to a scratch pattern. Once that primer is down, the topcoats behave exactly as they would on primed MDF. It is the single most common reason a self-refinished wardrobe or vanity peels at the handle edges within a year.

A single vanity unit is usually one to two days. A run of fitted wardrobes, a study wall or a set of built-in bookcases is quoted after survey, because the door count and the amount of in-situ carcass work vary enormously. Doors and drawer fronts come off and are sprayed while the carcasses and frames are prepared in place, so the room stays usable throughout, with the joinery itself out of action rather than the space.

We answer this by substrate rather than by room. MDF, melamine, thermofoil, previously lacquered doors and solid timber each need a different adhesion primer, and open-grained oak and ash need grain filling before they will ever spray flat, so the survey looks at what the cabinetry is made of before it looks at where it sits. Kitchens are the one thing this service does not cover: they are priced and sequenced differently and have a page of their own.
