A handsome 1920s mansion block near Warwick Avenue in Maida Vale required comprehensive redecoration of its communal entrance hall, main staircase serving four floors, and the interiors of three individual flats. The communal areas had not been painted for over a decade and the decorative plaster mouldings in the entrance hall were obscured by layers of thick, yellowing paint. Coordinating between the freeholder responsible for communal areas and three separate flat owners — each with different tastes, timelines, and budgets — added significant project management complexity.

All residents remained in the building throughout, requiring careful scheduling, clean working practices, and maintained access at all times.
The 1920s entrance hall plaster mouldings had been obscured by decades of paint build-up and required painstaking restoration to reveal original detailing.
We held a joint meeting with all stakeholders to agree a communal colour scheme and individual flat specifications before any work began. The communal entrance hall was our first focus: we carefully stripped the decorative plaster mouldings back to reveal their original profiles, repaired damaged sections, and applied a sophisticated scheme of Little Greene French Grey for walls with the architectural details picked out in Little Greene Linen Wash. The main staircase received hardwearing Little Greene Intelligent Matt throughout, chosen for its exceptional scuff resistance in high-traffic areas. For the three flats, we worked sequentially — completing one flat at a time to minimise disruption in the building. Each flat received a bespoke colour scheme: Flat A chose a contemporary Farrow & Ball palette, Flat B preferred warm neutrals from Little Greene, and Flat C opted for bold feature walls using Zoffany paints. All materials were delivered via the service entrance and stored in an allocated basement area. We maintained clean, protected communal areas throughout.
