Primrose Hill
One of the iconic pastel-coloured stucco-fronted houses on Chalcot Crescent, Primrose Hill needed a complete exterior restoration. This famous crescent — one of the most photographed streets in London — sits within a strict conservation area where colours must be approved and maintained according to the established palette. The existing paint had faded unevenly, lime render had cracked in several areas exposing the brick beneath, and the intricate window surrounds and cornice detailing were losing definition under accumulated paint layers.
Chalcot Crescent has a strictly controlled colour palette and any deviation requires formal approval — precise colour matching was essential.
Damaged render had to be repaired using traditional NHL lime methods with proper slow curing, not modern cement-based products that would cause future damage.
The famous crescent attracts constant visitors and photographers, requiring exceptional site presentation and minimal disruption to the streetscape.
We began by consulting Camden Council's conservation team to confirm the approved colour for this specific property within the Chalcot Crescent palette. The existing paint was carefully analysed and the approved shade — a distinctive heritage pink — was precisely matched. All areas of damaged lime render were carefully cut back and rebuilt using traditional NHL (natural hydraulic lime) render, applied in multiple coats and allowed to cure slowly under damp hessian to prevent cracking. We chose a high-quality microporous masonry paint that allows the lime render and solid brick walls to breathe while providing excellent weather protection and colour retention. The window surrounds and cornice details were hand-painted with particular care to restore their crisp architectural profiles. Scaffolding was erected and dismantled in sections to minimise the visual impact on this famous streetscape, and we maintained clean, professional site hoardings throughout.

"Living on Chalcot Crescent means our home is photographed hundreds of times a day, so the exterior had to be perfect. The team understood the conservation requirements completely and the colour match is spot-on. Our house looks exactly as it should — timeless and beautiful."
